Salam Muhibah

Eating out: Baba Nyonya

Baba Nyonya Restaurant is located in Semarak, Nilai. We were there for a simple lunch today.

Ordered a foo yong egg. In the omelet, there's onion, carrots and celery and a little cincaluk. I don't really eat cincaluk, but this combination is kinda tasty. Most dishes are served on banana leaf. Truly authentic home-cooked baba nyonya food.

Next was the ginger prawns. The ginger, garlic and lemongrass are shredded, then fried till golden brown. The fresh-water prawns is big, almost the size of my palm.

This is Kangkong Belacan. We had another dish, Asam Red Garoupa. I was too consumed with the food that I forgot to snap a photo, hehe. The Asam fish is a must-have. Everyone who dines there would never fail to order this. It is sour and spicy at the same time. Really good to go with the plate of rice.

On a different note, have you seen horns grow from fu kwai plants?

This is taken from my mom's fu kwai plants today. I've never seen anything like that my entire life. After years of having the fu kwai plants, this is our first time seeing such "phenomenon". Mom said in the horns, these are the seeds of the plant. So far, there are 3 horns grown from the same plant. wooot

Just my luck

Not sure if this happens often to any of you, but it certainly does on me. It is just my luck that I often find hair and even dead flies in my food. YUCK, that's gross! I know! I can't help it. It seems to happen all the time, to ME especially. Maybe my eye sight is better or I tend to find fault of the restaurant. Or maybe these things have tendencies to creep their way onto my plate. Seriously, I don't know.

It's been numerous times I found hair in the food. I dare not even type what kinda hair is that! *urrgh* Occasionally, I get a bonus! Flies! It's been twice this year I get that bonus! If only lottery would come my way as well.

Belief me, I am very, very verbal when it gets on my nerve, especially when feeding myself. I will ask for the captain or F&B manager and show them my findings. High end restaurants usually respond the quickest. They won't want to tarnish their good names. Whereas when it comes to hawker center or coffee shops, my complains will go down the drain. Most often I'll get "OH? Yes ar?", even without apologizing *grrrr*

Not sure when this luck gonna end. Perhaps when I get older and my eye sight is no longer as sharp? Oh my, by then I'll taste some extra in my mouthful.

Eating out: Madam Kwan's

Maybank is having its Treats Fair at Midvalley Exhibition Hall starting today till Sunday. If you're a Maybank card holder, do drop by and do some shopping. No matter how much card points you have, there is something for everyone. We went there today 'coz dad wanted to redeem 2 Lojel trolley-bags.

Afterwards, we went to Madam Kwan's for lunch. All of us had Nasi Bojari. Over the years of dining there, this is my first time ordering this and also will be my last. No, don't get me wrong. Food's great and I enjoyed every bite. The portion is just too generous. I don't mind sharing it, but to finish a plate on my own, I rather not.

I noticed there are few new items on the menu, ie: Dumpling Soup Noodle. However, I don't see any diner ordering this. I guess people can get much better dumpling soup noodle elsewhere, that is equally good, at a cheaper price.

Eating out: Pizza San Francisco

I went out with my girlfriend, Hui Bao, for dinner. We seldom travel far for our indulgence anymore ever since the petrol price hike. Since both of us were craving for western food, we went to Pizza San Francisco. This restaurant is conveniently located in Bangi, where she's working at and I am staying in.

Nachos, priced at RM12.90

This nachos is nothing compared to TGIF and Chilli's. Instead of sour cream, they use whipped cream. OMG! Who on earth would want whipped cream on their food? The nachos tasted better dipped in chili sauce!

Pollo Chicken, priced at RM14.90

I ordered Pollo Chicken: Grilled chicken served with mushroom sauce and vegetables. But it came out to be steamed chicken and vegetables topped with mushroom in watery black pepper sauce. I wasn't expecting much, so it did not turn out THAT bad after all.

Chicken chop, priced at RM14.90

Hui Bao ordered Chicken Chop, to be safe. The chicken is fairly dry after being deep fried, and the crumbs was just too thick.

None of us finished our food. If you ask if we'd return to this eatery, my answer is YES. Why? Because they serve decent pizzas and drinks. Not that I'll visit next week, perhaps.... half a year later? Haha.

On another unrelated matter, when I was driving home after dinner, I saw a man trying to hitch a ride by flagging at the road side of the highway. I wondered who would take him into his (girls, don't ever do this) car and be kind enough to send him to his destination. We can never be too careful and cautious enough, let alone taking in a stranger. In the world today, especially in Malaysia where crime rates are on the rise,
we gotta watch out for ourselves. Nobody is taking good care of you except yourself. Be alert and always think a step ahead, it saves lives.

Movie Carnival 2008

We went to 1Utama for lunch after my pilates. While on our way back to our car, I noticed the central atrium were filled with people. I usually don't really bother about these fairs, but this caught my eye: Movie Carnival 2008 - When Dreams Come Through. I don't consider myself as a hardcore movie-goer, but I do watch most of them, either in cineplexes or on my computer (can download ma).

I saw 2 human-sized creatures hovering shoppers. I looked closer and I saw Alien and Predator! No wonder some shoppers were frightened, haha. I quickly walked over to shoot some stills. Few souls braved themselves to stand next to Alien and Predator.

Moments later, Spidey and Hellboy came out and joined them. By now, there were many children tailing them everywhere they walked to. I tailed them too, to take stills ma, otherwise, how to upload them here right? ;)

There were many movie booths surrounding the atrium. There was X-Files. But I wonder why Steve Carell's Get Smart posters was at the side of the booth, hmmm....

Many people stood by the Battle of Red Cliff booth. Apparently, there was competition of some sort. Looks like fans gotta wait for this upcoming film by John Woo.

Even Incredible Hulk made an appearance, though only his fore-arm *ahem* What was it trying to grab? The girl? Nah, she's safe, there's red tape that reads Do Not Cross stopping it.

Mad, mad world!

Today’s paper reported about a headless torso found near a monsoon drain. While on Sunday, a severed leg was found. Looks like criminals are getting bolder each passing day.

All we read in the papers are people were murdered, raped, robbed and et cetera. How often do you see news about police solving cases? Once a blue moon I see that the police busted drug trafficking gang or caught small time robbers. But that is not enough to keep us safe! There are still many, many criminals out there that are walking free. And more and more are committing crimes knowing that they won’t get caught.

Just today I found out that a dear friend of mine was robbed, molested and assaulted! It was upsetting and sick knowing it happened to someone you know. What is wrong with these people? Don’t they have a heart? Grrrrr!!! I hope every part of their body will rot and itch like there is not tomorrow! Grrrrr!!! Thankfully my friend is alright now. Hopefully she can put this incident behind her, though I know it will take some time to forget it.
